ORIWAD’s GAD Program for 2014

The Gender and Development (GAD) program focuses on the principle that development is for all. Everyone in society, male or female, has the right to equal opportunities to achieve a full and satisfying life. Men and women enjoy the same conditions for realizing their full human rights and potentials to contribute to development as well as benefit from the results.

For year 2014, the initial program and activity of ORIWAD for GAD is Lakbay Aral.

In this program, ORIWAD employees will take a trip to Baguio City. Baguio Water District and their pumping stations / water sources will be visited.

Baguio Water District
Baguio Water District’s Training Center regularly holds trainings for water district employees. Established in 1975, Baguio WD is a Class A water district with over 30,000 connections. It is considered as the queen of all water districts in Luzon. Headed by GM Salvador Royeca, a sanitation engineer, BWD was able to supply the water requirement of the city; overcoming hurdles such as rough terrain, high altitude and thebulk demand resulting from overcrowding during summer season.

Their technical know-how and expertise on water system operations, system growth, expansion, and particular topics like Non Revenue Water makes Baguio WD an ideal resource & training center for smaller water districts.

With the series of fortuitous events and indignities involving ORIWAD personnel, a trip taken together by the employees will promote bonding and camaraderie. This Lakbay Aral also aims to promote unity and togetherness amongst the employees. Hopefully, the rift between the two opposing factions will be mended.

Since all ORIWAD employees are Roman Catholics, we also plan to visit Our Lady of Manaoag in Pangasinan on our way home. Through this, our spirituality and relationship with our Creator will be strengthened.

Benefits of this Lakbay Aral
Being physically and mentally fit is one of the essentials in life. Mental health is equally important as physical health. And travelling, getting away from home and stepping outside of our routine is beneficial for both mind and body.

  • 1) To Sharpen the Mind

Baguio WD will conduct a seminar exclusively for Orion Water District employees. Topic is Non- Revenue Water. All the learnings that we will gain will be useful in the performance of our tasks, particularly for the technical group. Also, a seminar in a new environment will engage our minds and senses. All the new sights, sounds, and places will require mental processing and filing.

  • 2) A Shift in Perspective

Being exposed to new places and people will greatly shift one’s paradigm and create a healthier perspective once you return back home. Seeing different social classes will create compassion and make us feel more blessed and content.

A hard day at work in ORIWAD doesn’t seem so bad when we see people in other parts of the country toil in sun-scorched fields from morning to dark.

  • 3) Boost Our Self Confidence / Increase in Productivity

Several ORIWAD employees have never been to Baguio. The knowledge that we will acquire from the seminar and the travel to Baguio is invaluable. This will provide us with a whole new perspective. Our personal development will speed up when we get a chance to see and visit other places.

Becoming a well-rounded individual who has travelled to different places boosts self-confidence. It will also enhance our attitude and increase our productivity when we return. All of us will be back with a renewed sense of energy.

We are confident that ORIWAD’s Lakbay Aral for the Gender and Development Program will have encouraging results. We will continue to conduct more activities to attain progress towards gender and social equality.
